The Fundamentals of AWIPS course is a brand new course that comprises the AWIPS Fundamentals materials previously included in the Radar and Applications Course (RAC), with the exception of the Hazard Services training which will remain a part of RAC. By rehousing those sections as a standalone course, incoming NWS forecasters can be assigned formal CAVE/D2D AWIPS training as early as their first week on the job, at the discretion of the training officer. The course is available through the CLC and is a combination of hands-on practice in an AWIPS cloud instance following along with recorded web-based lessons, self-guided learning and practice in the VLab applet, and a final proficiency exam.
Brief Description: The Fundamentals of AWIPS Course (a pre-requisite for the Radar & Applications Course) uses a variety of tools to help you learn the basics of AWIPS you need to perform tasks related to severe weather warning operations.
Delivery Method: Web presentation, videos on the WFOCluster WES Cloud Instance, web pages accessible from your local AWIPS machine
