PCU 7: Onsite Weather Support and IMET Operations


Develop and maintain skills that facilitate operating embedded with an Incident Management Team.

Job Task Skills and Knowledge:

  • Assume role of IMET and initiate position activities at the appropriate time
  • Provide weather input which influences, guides, and directs personnel to accomplish objectives and desired outcomes in a rapidly changing, high-risk environment
  • Use suitable communication techniques to share relevant information with appropriate personnel on a timely basis to accomplish objectives in a rapidly changing, high-risk environment
  • Have strong knowledge of weather patterns across the entire service area of the NWS


Instructional Components:

  • S390 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior Calculations
  • ICS 300
  • Tasks as directed by IMET taskbook
  • Participate in residence or virtual IMET workshops as appropriate
  • Completion of at least 2 IMET training assignments and 20 days as an IMET trainee
  • S-110 Basic Wildland Fire Orientation
  • Optional Electives
    • S490 Advanced Fire Behavior Calculations
