5.7 Limited Observations

Some TAF sites have less than 24-hour coverage of surface observations taken at the airports. TAFs are still issued for those locations, however the TAF will include additional remarks that amendments are not issued during the period when observations are not available.

The remark "AMD NOT SKED" along with the time of the last observation or when observations are to resume is added after the last forecast group.

Description Example
The last observation available is at 0200 UTC on the 25th day of the month. No amendment is available after 0200 UTC.

Although observations might not be available, the TAF is still valid to the end of the routine scheduled valid time.

Amendments Limited to Specified Weather Elements.

Some TAF locations receive weather observations from an Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS). There are different types of AWOS sites with respect to their input weather sensor configurations. Some AWOS-III sites may not include a present weather sensor or may have only part-time augmentation so TAF amendments may be only available for certain weather elements that are reported.

For those TAF sites where only certain weather elements are available, the remark "AMD LTD TO (specified elements)" will be included at the end of the last forecast group. The remarks may include a date and time when amendments are not available or when complete observations will resume.
