3.2 Required Elements

As a minimum, all routine TAFs are required to have a 24-hour (30-hour for international sites) forecast of the following weather elements:

surface wind (direction and speed), visibility, and sky cover or obscuration

The following weather elements are included in the TAF only if needed.

significant weather phenomena, obstructions to visibility, non-convective low-level wind shear

On the next pages, we'll take a look at the usage and specifications for each weather group in their order of appearance within the TAF.
