2.5 Partners and Customers

There are many different individuals and organizations who use NWS TAFs to make decisions on whether it is safe to go flying.

These include:

  • air traffic management
  • commercial pilots
  • airline dispatchers
  • state/local government pilots
  • private pilots for businesses
  • recreational pilots

From the private pilot who flies for recreation or business purposes to the commercial pilot who is transporting large numbers of passengers and/or cargo, they all want to know what the weather will be starting from their departure point, along their route and to their final destination.

Airline dispatchers are responsible for planning and monitoring the progress of an aircraft flight. Depending on the dispatcher's certification, his/her employing airline and jurisdiction, they may have the authority to delay, divert, or cancel a flight at any time.
