1.6 Contractions

As you have probably noticed, there are lots of contractions and acronyms used in the agency. The TAF text message that gets disseminated to our customers and partners uses them as well.

The approved list of valid contractions used in TAFs are found in NWSI 10-813: Appendix A and Appendix E. The contractions and weather phenomena codes are derived from the Federal Meteorological Handbook No 1 Surface Weather Observations and Reports.
