Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use online tools to describe and explain basic space weather concepts.
  • Identify and anticipate the needs of aviation, GPS-based, amateur observer, and general customers.
  • Answer FAQs using basic space weather knowledge and existing resources.
  • Follow referral processes for more advanced questions as needed.
  • Follow NWS policies and protocols when speaking with the media.
  • Locate additional courseware and training resources on space weather.

Welcome to Handling Space Weather Inquiries

Target Audience: NWS WFO staff
Prerequisite: None

This course is designed to prepare NWS WFO staff for questions they may receive related to increased solar activity. The course objectives center on providing an explanation of space weather, its impact, an overview of the Space Weather Prediction Center, contacts, website and products; and methods for handling inquiries related to space weather.

By the end of this course, you will be able to use existing space weather resources along with basic space weather knowledge to address customer questions and seek additional support services when appropriate.
