  • COMET has published Leveraging Social Science to Improve Risk Communications. NWS forecasts are only one of many sources of forecast guidance that both expert users and the public have access to. Decision support for a spectrum of end users requires that the NWS will use social science findings and practices as a guide for making its products more accessible and effective. This lesson will focus on effective messaging when communicating weather hazards. In the process the learner will become familiar with some messaging best practices that are based on social science findings. To access this lesson in the Commerce Learning Center, click here. • The Satellite Foundational Course for JPSS (SatFC-J) is now available in the Commerce Learning Center. This 6-8 hour course contains an orientation and 13 lessons to bring forecasters, the scientific community, and others up-to-date on the capabilities of the JPSS/NOAA-20 satellite. The JPSS satellite series introduces a variety of new and improved capabilities compared to previous NOAA satellites, and this course was designed to promote full integration of this new observation capability into NWS operations. For non-NOAA employees, the SHyMet SatFC-J course is available. (03/15/19)
