Essential Details

Implementing ORDA Clutter Suppression

  1. Bypass Maps will be generated by the ORDA installation team to verify the validity of the map generation process. This will be done under existing conditions and will not likely produce the best quality Bypass Maps.
  2. Until Bypass Maps can be generated under ideal conditions, sites may apply clutter suppression:
    • using All Bins everywhere for Segment 1,
    • using All Bins only out to 62 nm for Segment 2.
  3. Once ideal conditions exist for the generation of Bypass Maps, see the Bypass Map Generation Guidance document. This provides concise instructions and appropriate parameter settings for Bypass Map generation for both segments.
  4. Once Bypass Maps are generated, clutter filtering with the Bypass Map in control should be used as appropriate to address normal clutter contamination. All Bins suppression should be used to address transient clutter (i.e., AP).

    Sites with hard targets outside the local RDA area (such as mountains) may need to make additional adjustments to their Bypass Maps. There is a Bypass Map range placement error in Build 7.0 that will be fixed in Build 8.0. An explanation of the problem and the appropriate workaround is available here.
