So what’s a good question? Is there such a thing as a bad question?
You may receive any variety of questions ranging from light hearted questions about viewing the aurora to more anxious concerns about safety, preparation, or maintenance. Additionally, callers may be interested in definitions or explanations of space weather phenomena discussed in a recent news article or report, explanations to the NOAA scales, or other more descriptive accounts of how the sun is impacting their lives.
There are no “bad” questions. Always respond to callers with both respect and empathy. What may seem plain and simple for you, can be challenging to those who have not studied the weather sciences!
Also, don't be too hard on yourself! This probably is not your specialty, and you can say as much, "My apologies, but this isn't my specialty. So, please allow me a moment to research that answer for you." Remember to rely on your tools at spaceweather.gov.
