Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC)
SWPC Forecast Center

SWPC is the nation’s official source for civilian space weather alerts, watches and warnings.  It is SWPC’s mission to provide space weather products and services to meet the evolving needs of the Nation.  It operates 24x7 and is designated a National Critical System by the US Department of Homeland Security.

Major airlines, power companies, GPS companies, and satellite owners will be familiar with SWPC who offers alerts/watches/warnings and other product; however GPS users, everyday citizens experiencing power outages, local astronomy clubs, and others might first check in with you.

Located in Boulder, Colorado, SWPC serves a large customer base that covers a broad spectrum from the private sector to other government agencies.  Industries and activities impacted by space weather include aviation, satellite operations, electric power grids, radio communications, navigation (including GPS users), and manned space flight.  The Center works closely with the U.S. Air Force’s (USAF) 557th Weather Wing to ensure forecast coordination and product compatibility between the civil and military sectors.  It is the flagship Regional Warning Center of the International Space Environment Services (ISES) that promotes cooperation and information exchange between Regional Warning Centers around the globe.
