Duty Cycle

The most useful equation for Duty Cycle is the one we just used
Duty Cycle   =   PW  x  PRF

where  PW (Pulse Width) was .000010 sec (10 microsec)
and  PRF (Pulse Repetition Frequency) was 500 Hz.

The Duty Cycle is useful because power measuring equipment frequently reports an average reading, and Duty Cycle is used in calculating averages.

Average Power   =   Duty Cycle   x  Power during the pulse
and since 'Power during the pulse' is referred to as peak power,

Average Power   =   Duty Cycle  x  Peak Power
