7.7.1.4.1 Oil Drain Procedure.- See figure 11-25 and proceed as follows:

Clean up oil spills. Oil is slippery and hazardous to maintenance personnel. While performing the oil tank repair procedures, make sure the area is adequately ventilated. Breathing oil vapors for a prolonged time period is hazardous. Dielectric oil is a skin irritant. Avoid prolonged skin contact during maintenance procedures. Dispose of contaminated oil in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Charging transformer A7T2 is saturated with dielectric oil. To prevent arcing due to the formation of air pockets in the transformer when the dielectric oil is drained from the transformer, do not allow charging transformer A7T2 to remain out of oil for more than 4 hours. The oil replacement transformer, tools, and equipment must be on hand before starting the procedure. The replacement transformer must remain in its oil-filled shipping container until transferred to oil tank.

Transfer hoses are provided with female quick-disconnect fittings. The connection or disconnection of these Fittings is accomplished by pulling back the sleeve of the female fitting.

Observe Oil Pump end, to tell which direction oil wil flow when energized.  Connect hoses accordingly.

1. Connect electric oil pump transfer hose from pump to oil drain/fill quick-disconnect connector on bottom of oil tank assembly.
 
2. Place pump to discharge/pickup hose into 30-gallon drum.
 
3. Pump oil out of oil tank assembly A7 into 30-gallon drum using electric oil pump.
 
4. When oil tank assembly A7 is empty, disconnect oil tank transfer hose from bottom of oil tank assembly.
 
5. Lay rags under bottom edge of oil tank front cover to catch oil drips when cover is removed.

6. Remove ground strap from upper right corner of oil tank.

7. Remove mounting hardware from oil tank assembly front cover and remove front cover.
 

Before cleaning the oil tank with Freon TF, remove the oil tank and place it outside in a clean, well-ventilated area. Prolonged breathing of Freon TF vapors could cause serious injury or death.

8. Observe oil residue on inside of oil tank. Residue should be clear. If residue is blackened or discolored, examine inside of tank closely for carbon source to assist in troubleshooting, then clean inside of tank with Freon.
