Verify HydroBase Data

Verify HydroBase data to ensure quality products and services" />The previous section described how hydrologic applications use HydroBase data. Now, here are a few reasons why verifying the information in the database is so important.

Consequences

You should ensure the information you add to HydroBase is accurate. You do not know how the information you post on the internet is used or if the user will receive corrections to erroneous data.

The AHPS page uses location information, flood stage, and most importantly, impact statements. Verification of impact statements so Emergency Managers and other stakeholders can make informed decisions, product accuracy, forecast accuracy.

WFO hydrologic applications, such as HydroView, RiverPro, Time Series, and Site Specific read information from database tables.

Accurate information in the tables increases the likelihood of usable output from the applications.

Tools

You can verify information in HydroBase by checking the information in the various pull down menus for each gage location.

You can also use PostgreSQL commands to query tables in the database. Use this option only if you are experienced using PostgreSQL. You could inadvertently delete a database table.

An easier, more thorough approach is to use an AWIPS application, Snoopy, to query the database. Find out more about Snoopy by visiting the NWS Software Collaboration Portal and searching for "snoopy".
