Several NWS national headquarters-level offices provide support, relay information, coordinate briefings, or perform other critical functions, particularly during high-impact events.

The Weather Prediction Center creates forecasts and weather analysis on a national scale. Bookmark the WPC site to view QPF and excessive rainfall graphics.

The National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center measures snow remotely using satellites and airborne snow surveys. The measurements provide snow water equivalent measurements and other hydrologic information.

The Meteorological Development Laboratory’s branches provide decision assistance, mesoscale modeling, products, and statistical modeling. MDL is responsible for the Flash Flood Monitoring and Prediction (FFMP) application.

The Space Weather Prediction Center provides information on impending outages of satellite communications due to solar activity.

Keep the Regional Headquarters aware of any significant hydrologic situation, whether it is forecast or in progress.

The Regional Headquarters may provide talking points for interactions with the media during significant or long-duration events.

Regional Headquarters also occasionally coordinate providing additional resources from the Region to staff FEMA Regional Response Coordination Centers (RRCC).
