SCF
The snow correction factor for a given precipitation gage depends primarily on the wind speed at the gage site and whether the gage is equipped with a wind shield.
The wind speed at the gage site is partly dependent on general surface winds, but is also heavily influenced by the exposure of the gage.
A reasonable initial value for SCF is 1.1 to 1.2
It should be remembered when selecting an initial value of SCF that this parameter implicitly accounts for gains or losses in water-equivalent caused by several processes that are not included in the snow model.
The processes are vapor transfer, interception, and drifting.
If the user knows or has a strong suspicion that the gain or loss due to any of these processes is significant, this should be reflected in the initial value of SCF.
