Forecasts

Resources presented on a blue background in the NOAA Space Weather Product Tool (such as Flare Forecasts in column 2) provide forecasted conditions.

So while the information shown in the D-RAP image represents current conditions and short term recovery estimates, Flare Forecasts and Solar Proton Forecasts  give customers an idea of how severe conditions may be for the next 1 – 3 days.

NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory A Flare Forecast Example:

Solar activity is likely to be at moderate levels (R1-R2, Minor-Moderate) with a chance for further X-class flaring (R3-Strong or greater) for the forecast period (13-15 Jun) due to flare potential from Regions 2080, 2085, 2087, and 2089.

Flare forecasts are daily probabilistic forecasts indicating the likelihood of an M class (or X class) X-ray flare occurring within the specified 24-hour day. Flare forecasts are included within the 3-Day Forecast and the Forecast Discussion products at 00 UTC and 12 UTC daily.
